Foodies to be in their element at Decorex Durban 2012

Visitors to the upcoming Decorex Durban (21 – 25 March) will be able to eat, drink and be merry with an eclectic mix of food markets, trendy pop-up restaurants and bars on offer at the highly anticipated décor, design, lifestyle and home living exhibition. The Food Weekly Fresh Market will be the heartbeat of Decorex Durban, with a blend of fresh artisanal food in the main market area. Alternatively, relax in the BOS Bar or the M-Net Cares Café, as each area will be uniquely decorated, offering visitors to Decorex a variety of trendy and inspirational places to enjoy a bite to eat.

The Food Weekly Fresh Market is envisaged by design team Angela Shaw, Neil Roake and Jan Botha as a 'vibey' area where people can sit down and mingle or grab some food on the go. The Fresh Market team have secured the very best in artisanal foods including beautifully presented gourmet sandwiches, pies, pastas and burgers, Japanese ramen, Mexican wraps, the freshest cupcakes and pastries, the best coffee Durban has to offer, artisanal beer, local curries, freshly squeezed fruit juices, and much more.

According to Fresh Market designer Neil Roake, award winning author and the founder and creative director of Durban based ad agency Modern Museum, "hospitality based businesses need to place design and aesthetics at the core of their existence, as the experience is tantamount to the product". With this in mind, Roake and fellow Fresh Market designers Angela Shaw and Jan Botha made sure to create an area that would not only serve as a trend exhibit on its own, but also do justice to the high quality products that are to be offered. According to Shaw, "the food experience at the various outlets is an important part of our overall vision for the event. Having designed the market area ourselves, with the help of a Sunday Times Food Weekly sponsorship, we hope to have created a dynamic and engaging market place".

Well known local designer Angela Shaw, who has a background in photography, project management and trend analysis, is the founder of Shaw Sisters - a business that finds new routes to market for handmade products. As such, she was ideally placed to secure for the Fresh Market some of the best artisanal foods that the region has to offer. Helping Shaw and Roake pull it all together is Jan Botha, another Durban-based interior designer who has contributed to projects all over South Africa from his base in Durban, and his background in design and project management is critical to the success of Fresh Market.

The BOS Bar is another element of Decorex Durban that is sure to be a popular, bright and modern meeting place for all visitors. Designed by Nicholas de Klerk of Design & Display and fuelled by the creative spirit of this cool South African organic rooibos iced tea, the BOS Bar has been heralded as a bold and cheerful use of design and space that will demand your undivided attention. Visitors will have the opportunity to delight in the pairing of the colourful flavours of the BOS Ice Tea with bold tastes of India.

A partnership between M-Net Cares, Decorex SA and Salvocorp (the official distributor of Staron by Samsung) will see the inclusion of another unique eatery at next week's exhibition. The M-Net Cares Café will be offering decor inspiration with its inspiring use of graphics and typography as part of its 'Literacy and Typography' theme, which will come to life thanks to a touch of Decorex magic and a number of exciting and trendy colours and design Staron items. A charity initiative will see a collaboration between celebrities and local designers and businesses contributing to the M-Net Naledi Children's Literacy Project – a programme that encourages a love of reading in primary school children. The M-Net Cares Café will feature bespoke children's' bookshelves created by Samsung Staron and Anatomy Design, and visitors to the show are encouraged to bring second hand children's books to place in the designer bookshelves, which will then be donated to the M-Net Naledi Children's Literacy Project in aid of setting up a new library this year.

The exhibition will be open until 8pm daily (except Sunday), allowing visitors to make an evening of it with the whole family. To be a part of one of South Africa's most highly anticipated exhibitions visit Decorex Durban at the Durban Exhibition Centre between 21 – 25 March 2012. The Decorex SA portfolio will also see exhibitions held in Cape Town (26-29 April 2012) and Johannesburg (8-12 August 2012). Decorex Durban is proudly sponsored by Plascon, with M-Net as the media partner.
