A mixed bag of value-adding partners gives weight to business and franchise expo objectives to inspire entrepreneurship

A diverse array of companies from various industries and sectors will be exhibiting at the 2011 Business Opportunities & Franchise Expo (BOFE) proudly presented by the Eskom Foundation and Thebe Exhibitions and Projects; sponsored by Standard Bank. Visitors can tap into great ideas, get qualified advice and even take the first step – right there and then – to start or grow their own small business.

“Through our careful and strategic approach, we have succeeded in attracting an excellent mix of companies that are able to add meaningful value to expo visitors regardless of which point along the journey of entrepreneurship they are.

“Whether they’re simply looking for ideas, exploring opportunities, are ready to take the plunge or have been in business for a while and are seeking to diversify, they have what they need at their finger tips all under one roof at BOFE 2011.

“It’s by far the largest and most comprehensive business opportunities expo in South Africa. The expo is dedicated to developing entrepreneurship and so we’ve collaborated with partners that can provide the opportunities, muscle and expertise to support this goal,” says Glynis Anderson, General Manager, Thebe Exhibitions & Projects Group.

“At Standard Bank we are devoted to the development of small enterprises and entrepreneurs; we provide a platform for aspirant entrepreneurs to tap into potential business opportunities. We believe this platform will ideally provide an entrepreneur with the opportunity to engage with us to build strong business relationships says Marius Le Roux, Head of Segment: Small Enterprises at Standard Bank.”

The four-day expo takes place at the Coca-Cola dome at Northgate from the 15 – 18 September 2011. Exhibitors include franchisors, major funding institutions, business support and equipment suppliers, direct selling companies, SMEs and companies offering work-from-home opportunities.

Companies offering franchising opportunities, ranging from big to small, include amongst others:

  • Boost Juice Bars, which is looking to expand its network of outlets selling healthy fast food meals, snacks, juice and smoothies. The company is offering a R10 000 discount on the purchase price of a Boost Juice Bar to visitors who successfully sign up as franchisees during the expo;
  • Creative Hearts, a beauty house providing natural, organic and mineral products, will be offering expo visitors opportunities to open their own agency or outlet at a special rate;
  • Archopedico, a maker and distributor of handcrafted, orthopaedic footwear. The company, which originates from Portugal, has been in the business of making custom shoes for 40 years. Archopedico will use the expo to launch the winter 2012 range of footwear and market business franchise opportunities;
  • Solid Ground Trading, a company that sells trading packages that teach technical analysis, strategies and money management skills that enable people to trade successfully on the world markets from a laptop, will show visitors how they can make money from home, using a laptop and an internet connection. Training packages, which includes access to mentorship forums, are usually sold at R20 000 but will be offered to expo visitors for R18 000;
  • MUZZ BUZZ, a company that offers convenient drive-thru coffee on the go. MUZZ BUZZ offers not only the coffee hungry consumers, but the willing and enthusiastic investors an opportunity to get in on the ground floor with this unique franchise.

Companies offering strategic support services to business owners include:

Furthermore, through Eskom’s on-going commitment to help grow the economy, visitors can also visit the 49m stand. This initiative aims to motivate all 49 million South Africans to willingly reduce electricity consumption wherever possible. The 49M energy efficiency stand, allows the general public to take a journey “through their own home”, highlights specific areas within this environment where energy efficiency can be achieved.

The Eskom Foundation will also be showcasing all 15 finalists from the 2011 Eskom Business Investment Competition, providing an invaluable stage for them to market their businesses and interact with prominent business leaders and representatives from a number of blue chip companies.

Haylene Liberty CEO Eskom Foundation adds: “This Eskom Business Investment Awards for black-owned enterprises, acknowledges entrepreneurs’ achievements and their potential to develop, grow capacity and impart skills. For the winners, the prize money could mean the fruition of plans to expand their business. For this reason we are proud to be in a position to host this competition and to be part of the Business Opportunities & Franchise Expo, which has proven such a valuable platform for creating opportunities for businesspeople and an effective tool for stimulating the SME sector,”

The national public broadcaster, SABC, will also have a presence at the expo, offering visitors a chance to update their TV licences. SABC will be giving away 2 x 32 inch LCD television sets during the show.
