Entrepreneurial exhibition will enable government and business procurement managers to enhance their BB-BEE profiles

Government and private sector procurement managers attending the 2011 Business and Opportunities and Franchise Expo (BOFE) in September will have the opportunity to network with hundreds of entrepreneurs and business owners from across the country. This will enable them to facilitate investment opportunities and drive entrepreneurship growth with aspirant entrepreneurs, while stimulating job-creation goals set by government.

Through subsequent business dealings with these entrepreneurs, offering products and services in a wide range of sectors, procurement managers can enhance the BB-BEE scorecards of their organisations, particularly with regard to the enterprise development and procurement pillars. The enterprise development pillar encourages organisations to develop and support small businesses and promotes investment in black-owned and black-empowered enterprises or joint ventures that will result in significant skills transfer. The preferential procurement pillar aims to promote the use of black-owned service providers and entrepreneurs with good empowerment credentials as suppliers to the state and private sector, and provides emerging enterprises with opportunities to expand their output. These two pillars can be extremely valuable to organisations that are not making progress with some of the other pillars, such as ownership and management, which are challenging ones to address.

The 2011 BOFE, proudly sponsored by Standard Bank, is a strategic joint partnership between exhibition organiser specialists Thebe Exhibitions & Projects and the Eskom Development Foundation. Promoting the development and growth of small and medium sized businesses is a core part of the Eskom Foundation’s strategy.

“We offer support to entrepreneurial businesses through capacity building. We also facilitate the creation of opportunities through platforms such as BOFE, to assist entrepreneurs in marketing their enterprises that will encourage them to grow. This, in turn, provides further employment opportunities in the country,” says Haylene Liberty, Eskom Foundation CEO. “Our aim is to create an ever-increasing pool of black, and specifically black-women owned SME suppliers from which the public and private sectors can procure goods and services.”

This year’s BOFE will be held at the Coca-Cola dome in Northriding, Johannesburg, from 15 – 18 September 2011.

If you would like more information or are interested in participating in BOFE 2011, contact Belinda Unterslak on Tel: (011) 549 8300 or email belinda@tepg.co.za to reserve your space.
