Johannesburg – Who says décor is only for girls? In an inspired move to reflect the fact that men can live a stylish lifestyle too, Decorex Joburg is going to be showcasing the very best in man cave décor.

Africa's biggest décor, design and lifestyle exhibition, Decorex Joburg kicks off at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand on 8th August 2012 for five days of inspiration, ideas, new product launches, technical advice and simply a great day out for everyone – the boys too! The Man Caves, now sponsored by Mercedes‐Benz, was a hugely successful feature at Decorex Durban and Cape Town earlier this year, has now come to Joburg with some of the city's leading décor minds creating the ultimate boy zones.

This is do‐good design at its finest as – each decorator is teamed up with a celebrity to raise funds for the charity of their choice.

In Cape Town Bob Skinstadt and his brother Dan took top honours by raising more than R10 000 with their man cave designed by Aidan Bennetts Designs. In Durban popular Sharks rugby player Ryan Kankowski's charity came out tops. Decorex SA will top up the winner's charity account with another R10 000.

The Mercedes‐Benz Man Caves will be situated in the link between Halls 2 and 3 so be sure to go and vote for your favourite at Decorex Joburg.

The exciting line up for the Mercedes‐Benz Man Caves at Decorex Joburg looks like this: Fusion junkie Adam Levin of Imagine Nation is creating a quirky "cabinet of curiosities on acid" for All Access presenter Jason Greer. The queen of contemporary style Heidi Arenstein is behind the smoky, sexy TV lounge for Bob Mabena of Kaya FM. Ockert Snyman of Jacket Interiors is making a modern library for gentleman actor Tumiso Masha. And last but not least, we can't wait to see what the mistress of modernism, Lee‐Ann Bell of Mezzanine Interiors, is going to do for Kaya drive time Mo‐G.

"Men don't want a place to work at home – they'd rather leave that at the office," says Ockert Snyman. "What men want is a space where they can simply do their own thing: listen to their own music, read their own books, watch their own television programmes." But don't expect a stuffy library for Mr Masha: "These days, it's a lot about the gadgets and equipment, more than relaxing in a library filled with old books," says Ockert. Adam Levin says he's created a modern‐day cabinet of curiosities because he believes boys should never grow up.

"Aside from the metrosexual thing, men will always be like little boys, collecting strange and interesting things."Don't expect earthworms and scorpions from quirky Adam, but a wacky collection that any modern man would love.

The Mercedes‐Benz Man Caves look to showcase a wide variety of décor styles too: We can't wait to see Lee‐Ann Bell's signature modernist style as she creates a pared down vinyl music lounge. Heidi Arenstein is going hi‐tech with an automation system that boys' dreams are made of.
