The 2nd Sports & Events Tourism Exchange Exhibition and Conference (SETE)

The 2nd Sports & Events Tourism Exchange Exhibition and Conference (SETE) will take place at the Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban from 12 – 14 September 2012.

In follow up to the inaugural event which was held in Cape Town last year, the 2012 SETE conference directors have formulated a programme to stimulate debate aimed at providing new ideas and information about growing the events tourism industry in South Africa.

This year's conference will feature some prominent speakers who will share their experiences with delegates aimed at making South Africa more globally competitive in hosting more mega events. The Steering Committee appointed at last year's conference will also share the work undertaken in the past year in developing a sports tourism strategy.

The SETE team has secured some of the world's leaders in the industry to address delegates at this forum. The line-up of distinguished speakers includes His Excellency Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee. His Excelllency will present Qatar's vision for becoming a global leader in sports tourism and how its hosting of major sporting events has developed the country's brand profile and reputation, as one of the leading power brokers in global sport over the last ten years.

Mike Lee, CEO of Vero Communications, will analyse how global communication platforms are utilized to promote major events and the bidding strategies used for the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.

Paul Bush, CEO of Event Scotland will examine the processes for Bidding, Winning & Delivering Major Events and Sandie Dawe, CEO of Visit Britain Tourism will run a workshop covering capacity issues in transport, accommodation and security for the London Olympics 2012 & The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. These are just a few of the interesting speakers who will entertain and educate attendees at the SETE conference later this year.
