This is not goodbye – WHTF!

One of South Africa’s most anticipated events, The World Holiday and Travel Fair (WHTF) will not take place this year. Scheduled to take place from 15-17 April 2011 at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg, the WHTF is in a holding pattern for now!

The Brainchild of Thebe Exhibitions and Projects, one of South Africa’s most forward thinking and successful exhibition, special projects, events & conference organizers, as well as venue management company, the WHTF made its debut in April 2010. The prestigious Thebe Exhibitions and Projects Group, in their efforts to showcase just how important exhibitions are to any industry, orchestrated the re-birth of WHTF. Although faced with challenges like the economic instability and natural disasters around the world that had a serious impact on tourism, the WHTF 2010 received a very enthusiastic visitor response and the success of the pilot expo in 2010 was evident from the compliments and enthusiastic feedback received from exhibitors.

“We are regretful that the WHTF will not happen during 2011, but we are looking forward to getting together with the travel industry to discuss the potential for 2012 and until then the WHTF remains in a holding pattern”, says Carol Weaving, Managing Director of Thebe Exhibitions and Projects Group.

Karl Sieber, National Sales Manager for Absa International banking says, “As the presenting sponsor for the World Holiday and Travel Fair, International Banking from Absa has over the last couple of years seen the importance of interacting directly to clients and potential clients. The WHTF presented us with the ideal platform to achieve our goal and to educate consumers on the various International Banking travel products available to them. It is indeed a very unfortunate time for both Absa and the WHTF team in that we will not be able to expand on the efforts from the successful 2010 event. We have managed to gain an entry into the traveling communities and were hoping to enhance our direct contact with this special group of people by using the WHTF as our base. We trust that a change in market conditions will allow us to continue building on the WHTF successes in the foreseeable future.”

Brendan Seery, editor of Saturday Star Travel, said it was a big disappointment that the show would not be held this year. "Last year's event provided a great opportunity for players in the industry to showcase their products and to offer advice to travellers. Saturday Star Travel and The Star Travel Club were also able to meet many of our readers and swop stories." Seery added: "We hope that the show will take place again in the future."

Pending constructive input from various industry leaders, Thebe Exhibitions and Projects are putting the WHTF in a holding pattern for now.

More information about new dates will be advised as soon as possible.
